Are the effects of sport drinks a myth?

In the world of sports many athletes use sports and energy drinks as supposed performance enhancements however is this really the case?

Energy drinks can be highly dangerous in the younger generation with links to raised blood pressure and cases of stress and anxiety from the drinks.

A can of Monster energy 500ml is packed with 55g of sugar which is a huge risk to the erosion of teeth.

There is no doubt that when your favourite sports star is downing a bottle of Monster or Lucozade sport it makes you question what do they get out of the drinks FROM THE OFF women’s vlog spokesperson and former women’s footballer Steph Fairbairn spoke out and said:

” I didn’t massively understand the science behind them, all i knew was they’d be replacing electrolytes i lost when playing.

” I just think the danger is that players at lower levels without any nutritional performance guidance can think about energy drinks in isolation.”

With negatives about the drinks there does come some positives.

Sports drinks are often packed with carbohydrates which does it’s role well when getting into your body fast this then maximises your performance faster than what water would.

Carbohydrates also fill up your muscles with fuel so the body can operate properly.

From sweating your body loses vital vitamins which when drinking sports drinks they replenish the body with these vitamins lost.

The main noted disadvantage is that they can become addictive due to taste or performance levels.

” I used to take an energy drink to every game I played and every training session, it was a habit i carried over from a young age.”
